Back when I started this blog, I mentioned that I’d eventually explain why its named Scarabology and why I chose to go by Scarab. Well, I did promise, and what better time to explain.
A few years ago, I bought a 1970 Volkswagen Beetle convertible. I’ve always wanted a Beetle and Mr. B is into custom show cars, so the plan was to get a decent car, fix it up, customize it, and I could learn about cars along the way. Well, I got the car, and we took it out maybe 4 or 5 times and found it had a wiring problem that kept one of the brake lights from working. When looking into that, we found that the fuse panel was pretty rusted. So taking it apart happened a little sooner than planned. We then found a lot more wrong with the car and got kinda stalled with things we couldn’t fix and can’t find anyone else who either will fix it or has the time to fix it.
So what does that have to do with this blog? Well, see I wanted a way to document the progress on the car, hence the original reason to blog. When I revamped the whole blog thing and moved over here, I had planned on continuing that, though since that time there unfortunately hasn’t been anything to talk about related to the car. But that’s where the idea for the blog came from. I was planning on a scarab theme for the car. I’ve always liked scarabs and the look of Egyptian stuff, so the initial look of the blog was going to reflect that and contain scarabs. I decided to ignore the fact that scarabs are dung beetles and use that for a name. I had considered just Scarab for the name of the blog, but that’s already been taken on quite a few blogging sites.
I wanted something a little different, so after a while I came up with Scarabology. I was learning about cars, other people would be learning about me and the car, and Scarabology just seem to fit. Granted, I hadn’t really done anything at all along those lines. This is the first I’ve mentioned the car, and the first time I’ve really sat down and discussed anything about me. I guess it was about time I started living up to the name.
